Who We Are

What we are all about

The consolidation of democracy and good governance in Nigeria calls for creative engagement with young people, greater participation in the political process, and a unified voice for an inclusive and fair society.

Voice to Represent (“Voice2Rep”) is a first of its kind music competition searching for top first-time WaZoBia-Pidgin English music artists who support greater representation, participation and accountability across Nigeria. It gives these rising stars a platform to make their voices heard, connect with socially-conscious leaders in the music industry, and build the skills they need to shape the future of the country through music. #Voice2Rep is run by Accountability Lab Nigeria in partnership with the Dutch Embassy Chocolate City – one of the largest music platforms and entertainment companies on the African continent.

The finalists will be flown to Lagos for a week to be trained on lyrics, style, and performance as well as advocacy for accountability, good governance and political engagement. Each artist will be paired with a professional producer from Nigeria’s music industry for mentorship and coaching to perfect their songs and find their authentic voice. The campaign will culminate in a large national concert in Lagos where the five selected artists will perform in front of the public. Live television and radio broadcasts will showcase their message to a national audience, who can vote by SMS, WhatsApp and online for their favorites. The winning songs will be professionally produced and shared across the country and around the world. Voice2Rep will then build a network of musicians, producers, mentors, judges and fans of socially conscious music who will continue to use their voices to advocate for the change they would like to see.
